Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 16, 2026
EVcourse ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our website and mobile apps.
Overview
We collect as little data as possible. Our services are designed to work without collecting personal information. You can sign in with Apple if you wish to save your progress across devices, but it is entirely optional. This policy covers both our website (evcourse.com) and our mobile app (EVcourse).
Data Controller
The data controller for EVcourse is Oy Finnovatec Ltd, a company registered in Finland. For privacy requests, contact nina@evcourse.com.
Website Data Collection
We do not collect, store, or process personal user data on our website.
When you use the EVcourse website:
- Your inputs are stored locally in your browser only
- We do not maintain a user database
- We do not require account creation
Mobile App Data Collection
The EVcourse app is designed with privacy in mind. No account or sign-up is required to use the app. You can sign up with Apple on the app, if you wish to save your progress across devices.
Data We Collect
EVcourse collects only the data needed to provide its features. By default, you are anonymous. No account is required.
- An anonymous device identifier for spam prevention and app functionality
- App usage data such as which scenarios you view, charging feedback you submit, and your progress
- If you log charging feedback, you can optionally tag additional details such as the charging network you used. You may also submit suggestions if an option is not listed.
- If you join a team, your feedback is linked to that team code
- If you have granted location permission, your location is used for app features such as finding nearby chargers
- If you use the charger screen scan feature, photos are processed entirely on your device for text recognition. Only the extracted text is sent to our servers for matching. Photos are never uploaded or stored outside your device.
- Scan results are stored in our database: the extracted text, matched error code, detected network, lookup source, and input method. No images are stored.
- Scan-related analytics events (scan initiated, results found, scan shared) follow the same anonymous-first model as all other analytics
- If you choose to sign in with Apple, your name and email are collected. Your name is used for display in the app profile only ("Signed in as..."). Your email is used for account identification and customer support only. Neither is shared with third parties or used for marketing. Apple lets you hide both your name and email during sign-in.
- If in-app purchases become available, transactions will be handled entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). EVcourse does not collect or store payment information
You can disable location access or notifications in your device settings at any time. The app will continue to work. You can reset your anonymous identifier by reinstalling the app.
Tracking
We do not track you. Our app does not use Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework because we do not track users across apps or websites owned by other companies. The app does not use third-party tracking SDKs (no Google Analytics, no Facebook SDK, no ad networks). The app does not use cookies.
Data Storage
Most data is stored locally on your device. When you join a team, charging feedback and analytics events sync to our cloud infrastructure hosted in the EU. All data is transmitted over encrypted connections.
How We Use Information
We use the collected information to:
- Provide and improve our educational content
- Analyze which scenarios are most helpful for EV drivers
- Understand regional charging challenges
- Improve app performance and user experience
AI Processing (Scan Feature)
When the scan feature cannot find a match in our local database, the extracted text is sent to a third-party AI service for interpretation. This happens via a server-side function, not directly from your device.
- What is sent: Extracted text from the charger screen (not the photo), detected network name, and your anonymous device ID
- Who processes it: Anthropic (Claude API)
- Why: To interpret error codes, foreign-language screens, and charging status messages that are not in our database
- Data retention by Anthropic: Anthropic's API does not use API inputs for model training, per their data usage policy
- Our storage: The AI response is stored in our database alongside the extracted text, matched code, and anonymous identifiers. No images are ever stored
- Rate limit: AI lookups are limited per day. Anonymous users get a lower daily limit. Signing in with Apple increases your daily limit
- Opt-out: You can use the app without the scan feature. Camera permission can be revoked at any time. Step-by-step troubleshooting guides are available without the scanner
Analytics
Website: We collect aggregate, non-personal usage statistics. Our website analytics do not use cookies, do not track individual users, and are GDPR-compliant.
Mobile App: We collect anonymous usage analytics to improve our educational content. No third-party analytics SDKs are used.
Payments
When in-app purchases become available, they will be processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). EVcourse will not collect, process, or store your payment card details. Apple or Google will act as the merchant of record. See our Terms of Service for details.
Data Sharing
We do not sell or rent your personal data. We may share anonymous, aggregate statistics that cannot identify any individual user.
- Team charging feedback is visible to other members of the same team (you initiate this by joining a team)
- Aggregate analytics data (no individual identification) may be shared with B2B companies as part of their team analytics
Data Processing for B2B Companies
When a driver enters a team code, anonymous analytics events are associated with that code. Companies see aggregate data only. Individual driver identity is never shared with companies.
- This is a data controller/processor relationship under GDPR
- A Data Processing Agreement (DPA) is available on request via nina@evcourse.com
- Each company's data is isolated. Companies cannot access other companies' data.
Data Deletion on Termination
When a company stops using EVcourse, analytics access is revoked and the team is deactivated. Analytics data is retained in aggregate only, with no individual identification possible. Full deletion is available on request.
Sub-processors
- Supabase (cloud database, EU region)
- Apple (authentication if driver uses Apple Sign-In, Maps for charger search)
- Anthropic (AI service for charger screen text interpretation, no image data sent, API inputs not used for training)
- Apple Vision / Google ML Kit (on-device text recognition, no data leaves your device)
Third-Party Services
We work with a small number of service providers for website hosting, cloud infrastructure (EU-hosted), app delivery, and payment processing. These providers process data on our behalf and are bound by their respective privacy policies. EVcourse does not store your payment card details.
Data Retention
- Anonymous analytics events: Retained for the lifetime of the service to improve content
- Charging feedback: Retained until you delete your account
- Account data (Apple Sign-In): Retained until you delete your account, or up to 3 years after last activity
- Purchase records: Retained as required by Finnish tax and accounting law
You can reset your anonymous identifier by reinstalling the app. You can delete your account in the app via Profile > Delete Account, or by emailing us.
Your Rights (GDPR)
Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation, you have the following rights:
- Right to access: Request a copy of your data by emailing us
- Right to deletion: Delete your account in the app (Profile > Delete Account), or request deletion by email
- Right to rectification: Contact us to correct any inaccurate data
- Right to data portability: Request a machine-readable copy of your data
- Right to object: Object to processing based on legitimate interest at any time
We will respond to all privacy requests within 30 days. Email nina@evcourse.com with any request.
Your Rights (CCPA / California)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) gives you additional rights:
- Right to know: Request what personal information we collect and how we use it
- Right to delete: Request deletion of your personal information
- Right to opt out of sale: We do not sell your personal information to third parties
- Right to non-discrimination: We will not treat you differently for exercising your privacy rights

App Store Privacy Labels
In accordance with Apple's App Store requirements, here is a summary of our data practices:
- Data Used to Track You: None
- Data Linked to You: Name (app personalization, display in profile), Email Address (account identification and customer support), User ID (only if you sign in with Apple. Both name and email are optional. Apple lets you hide either or both.)
- Data Not Linked to You: Product Interaction, Device ID
Location is used for app functionality (finding nearby chargers) and is never sent to our servers. Usage data helps us understand which scenarios are most helpful.
Security
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We store it with trusted, GDPR-compliant service providers.
Children's Privacy
Our services are not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us at nina@evcourse.com and we will delete it promptly.
Trademark
EVcourse is a registered trademark in the European Union. All content, branding, and materials on this app and website are the property of their respective owners. Unauthorized use of the EVcourse name or logo is prohibited.
EU AI Act Transparency
EVcourse uses AI in two ways:
- On-device text recognition: Apple Vision (iOS) and Google ML Kit (Android) extract text from charger screen photos. This processing happens entirely on your device. No images leave your device.
- AI interpretation: When extracted text has no match in our database, it is sent to Anthropic's Claude API for interpretation. This is a limited-risk AI system. The AI provides informational guidance, not automated decisions about users.
The troubleshooting content shown in the app is human-written by EV charging specialists. AI is used to interpret charger screens and connect you to the right troubleshooting help. No biometric data is processed. No automated decisions are made about users.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
